Catch and Release Project Party

I’m kicking off the last week of Mister Domestic’s Catch and Release Project Party so let’s get right to it! Tag yourself, I’m the one off-screen filling her plate with bread.

I’ve had several pattern ideas brewing in my head for some time but it wasn’t until Mathew’s call for makers to work on his new collection that pushed me to do put those thoughts into action. I was a little very nervous on how to go about writing a pattern, but what I love about Mathew is how incredibly super chill and supportive he is on just going for it. We FaceTimed each other and had a no-muss no-fuss chat that I needed to hear. I may or may not have shed a tear while chatting with him because Mathew is such a caring, sweet, genuinely good person. If you’ve been following him for some time, I think you already know that!

Though I took a break from quilting over the summer to dedicate my time with family, it also gave my brain some much-needed space for my idea to expand. But once I had my fabrics selected, everything started falling into place at a fast rate. In fact, I finished piecing the top before I realized I didn’t take any progress shots. Face, meet palm.

Oh man, what a treat cutting into these! Poplin is one of my favorite substrates to work with, not only for its lighter weight but also for the super smooth texture. So if you’re into all that good stuff, Mister Domestic’s Catch and Release collection is for you. Check out those pretty shades of blues and hints of greens!

So with my test quilt in front of me, I delved into writing my pattern into a digital format. A huge thanks to my Mr. for doing the graphics and some tech-y stuff! This was a huge challenge but armed with lots of snacks and a positive attitude, I was calculating numbers and using a design software. That’s right, guys. I’m computing math problems and click clacking away on my laptop. Who am I?! For those who know me, Me + Math/Computer = Frustration x 3 (that’s a legit algorithm) but somehow, I was feeling…good about it? It felt wonderful to conquer my lifelong aversion to math and troubleshooting computer basics. Anyhow, next thing I knew, I’m putting a call out to testers and prepping the release of my first pattern!
