Eastern Sierra II (Bed Sizes) Quilt Pattern
The Eastern Sierra quilt pattern is now available in bed sizes here!
Since the original Eastern Sierra pattern release, I’ve gotten inquiries to make the design big enough to generously cover your beds. I’m happy to announce that day is finally here, exactly two years since the original version was released in 2020!
The new standaloneEastern II quilt pattern includes two sizes: 80” x 96” and the 112” x 112” extended layout version. If the top is too big, you can trim the quilt top to your desired size. And if they’re still too big, the original Eastern Sierra pattern (which features baby and throw sizes), is always available 😉
INSIDE THE PATTERN
If you’re new to this pattern, it is packed to the brim with choices. It was important to represent the wild and varied nature of the Eastern Sierra mountain range and make it friendly for those who prefer to sew without curves. That’s why it’s a choose-your-own-adventure type of pattern! If you don’t want to avoid curves, only want a few curves, or prefer to make all the curves, you do you! On top of it all, the Eastern Sierra II quilt pattern includes the extended layout diagram, perfect for your king size beds or ultimate blanket forts.
I’ve also included the links to video tutorials, handy for those looking for additional visuals to make the basic blocks. Finally, I’ve added less-waste instructions for making bonus blocks to save for a future project.
BEHIND THE SCENES
Revisiting the pattern to make bigger sizes was a fun experience but truthfully not without its challenges. For one, Eastern Sierra is packed with so many design options that proofreading this [giant] baby was a bit of a doozy! Since it’s not a block-based pattern, every option had to be recalculated and retested multiple times. Plus, the templates needed to be just large enough to print on a regular piece of paper while making sure it can be assembled comfortably. Gosh, I debated for so long on how big these quilts should be!
The other big challenge was putting my mind back to when the original was first released in 2020. It was a delightful launch, not only because it was the final pattern of the Golden State series, but also because it helped me readjust my small business priorities in a more positive, sustainable way. However, it was also a big reminder that this design came about right before the pandemic and well…enough said, amirite 🙃
SHOUTOUT
It’s always a joy and a huge relief on my back to send my quilt tops to longarmers so a special thanks to Lilo of Trace Creek Quilting for partnering with me to quilt the above version, especially for a size as big as this one!
The fabrics above were courtesy of Art Gallery Fabrics. I just love their colors and their easy, downloadable swatches on their website. In fact, both my bed versions are made from PURE solids!
Lastly, massive thanks to the pattern’s testers! It’s a big commitment to take on a bed size to test and I’m so appreciative of this group of talented makers. Please check out their versions here!
